SSU Nursing degree opens a world of opportunity for graduates

Su Provaznik is looking forward to graduating this spring from Shawnee State University with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. First moving to Wheelersburg, Ohio from China in 2018, Provaznik already had a degree teaching English as a second language. Wanting to go back to school for another career, she was encouraged to explore the SSU Nursing programs.

“A lot of people suggested I should do nursing and when they heard I was interested in Shawnee, they said Shawnee’s nursing program was really good,” she said.

Finishing her degree, Provaznik is grateful to be getting a degree that can take her anywhere she wants to go in the future.

“The good thing about nursing is once you graduate and get your certificates, you are almost guaranteed a job,” she said. “Some of my friends are thinking about moving away because they already have job interviews lined up and they haven’t even graduated yet.”

With English being Provaznik’s second language, she was originally nervous about how well she was going to do in school. As she started taking classes, she realized how well she could do with the help of her professors.

“All of the professors here are very nice and they have all been very patient going through everything with me,” she said. “My first semester in nursing was the hardest because of the new terminology and just some English in general, but after my first year everything went way smoother.”

In the future, Provaznik wants to continue her education to earn her doctoral degree. Right now, she is focusing on starting her family and starting to work in the nursing field after leaving SSU.

SSU’s School of Nursing offers many pathways into the nursing industry – the Associate Degree of Nursing, LPN-RN Pathway, the Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and the fully-online RN-BSN Pathway. The programs have been regionally-recognized for their excellence in the classroom, in clinical setup, and for job placement after graduation.
